Work Experience

I'm doing my work experience this week, at the Welwyn & Hatfield Times (my local newspaper).

It's very interesting, seeing how the people there work and the office conditions, but I haven't been doing much. I've written a few short things, which may be going into the newspaper.

Hopefully they'll give me some more stuff to do tomorrow.

At least mine's better than Nick's, always good to know. He's working in Music Zone, a CD/DVD shop, and he's mostly stacking shelves, that kind of thing. He says it's probably the most bored he's ever been.

So at least there's an upside.

I forgot to mention...

I filmed some of my day out at the Su Doku Championship which I'm currently in the process of editing down into a nice documentary. Or something along those lines.

The Times National Su Doku Championships, 2006

Although it was actually a week ago yesterday.

The two or so hour car journey there was a little dull, but it was good fun when we got there. It was in the new university, and as it was new, all the buildings looked hi-tech and interesting.

The competition itself was an hour, with three su doku puzzles to solve, and they were pretty difficult. I did manage to finish all three after about 50 minutes, and I had my paper handed in, so at least I was in with a chance.

It then turned out that I hadn't come in the top three, which wasn't a great surprise. We did stay for the "award ceremony" where the top people from each age group received their prizes. Top prize for the adults is £1000!! I may have already said that in a previous post...

I asked one of the organising people where I came and it turns out I came 4th!!! So close. But not really. I just have to do more practice before next year's competition, as after next year, I'll be too old for that age category and will have to participate in the adult section. No chance.

Su Doku Competition

It's Friday night, and the competition is on Sunday.

I should really be practising...

National Poetry Day

I went to the Globe Theatre a week ago yesterday, on National Poetry Day, to go to the "award ceremony" for the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award.

It was a few speeches and then the top 15 winners (of which I was not one) were presented with their prizes, which were the same as mine just with a week-long residential course about poetry or something. I'm so jealous...

Then everyone had some drinks and snacks whilst standing around talking, so me and my dad left a bit early, and collected my free two poetry books, and my membership card to the Poetry Society, which expires on the 4th of October, 2007.

If an anthology of the 100 winners' poems is published, I'll definitely get it (even though it's such a con) as I'll be able to find out which of my three poems was considered a "winner".

I hope it's the one entitled "Dear Eleanor" because it would mean that I'd be able to find out how it goes, as I don't think I saved a copy of it anywhere.

Mensa Junk

The Mensa junk arrived today, confirming my membership. There's even a little plastic card with some words printed on it. Not the most impressive card out there.

Also a folder and some bits of paper.

Premium Bonds

I won £50 last night from my premium bonds! I wasn't even aware of having them, as my grandad bought me them many years ago.

I'll invest it wisely...
